I read this verse this morning: "But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand." Ezekiel 33:6 I was really struck by something that my friend Laurie had sent me recently - a paper by Eddie Chumney pointing out the remarkable coincidence that the word for Watchmen in Jeremiah, Natsar, is composed of the identical 3-root Hebrew letters, Nun-Tzadee-Resh, as the Hebrew word for Christians (or followers of Jesus/ Yeshua), Netzar - again, Nun-Tzadee-Resh. I don't know what you think about coincidence, but in this case I suspect that it's not the result of some random chance. Root words in Hebrew usually carry a similar underlying meaning which sometimes ties the related words together in significance. The word Natzar, Christian, is related to Nazareth, to Jesus who was called "the Nazarene", and is also related to the word branch, Notzer - with lots of lovely prophetic significance that I don't know my scripture references well enough to quote off the top of my head, but if anyone is interested I'll dig them out. I just really wanted to point out the possibility that it is the responsibility of Christians, messianics, followers of Jesus/ Yeshua to be Watchmen on the Walls, and to be watching out for and supporting Israel (both the land and the people), and the responsibility to warn them, protect them, and to stand up for them, and to not keep silent, as the verse in Ezekiel points out, carries blessings and curses we would do well to heed. If we don't we could very well find ourselves on the wrong side of the Lord's purposes. Shalom!
p.s. apologies to my friends on Facebook who will be getting this message twice (this post was originally written on Facebook, and my Multiply blog feeds back to my Facebook account); I thought this was important enough to bear repeating.
